I’m...

Too Sexy For My Wig...

The piercing blue eyes. The haughty sneer. The impeccable ponytail. That big, er, sword. Don’t let the sparkly brass buttons fool you; Green Dragoon Colonel William Tavington is no knight in shiny armor. He’s one baaaaad dude.

But sexy like, ooh la la!

That’s how we like them here, snarly and ready for a good spanking. And a man who sets fire to a church full of women and children ought to...well, more than have his bubble derrière have an encounter of the leather kind, but I believe in recycling. Don’t throw a villain to the garbage, here at Hussies Central, we recycle them! And reuse them. Over, and over, and over again.

Mwa ha haaa.

If I thought I was the only one with an infatuation in the character, well, others out there have a veritable obsession. I can understand. Dude, the guy is (oh, what’s the online jargon thing again...) OMGLIKEHAWT!? In fact, YouTube is rife with (international) juicy bits, footage, and montage showing our yummy villain either in full riding outfit or just a barely done-up shirt and pants while shaving in the river.

With his hair down.

Yes, picture this for a second. *sigh*

Did I mention he has his hair down? Oh? Okay, I did.

I might put something out there too if I had the inclination, sufficient will to learn basic video creating and some time (baby, I sold my soul to the devil but I still have only 24 hours...the lying bastard).

Back to Mister Snarly Pants.

Because a simple hand to the bum won't do. Oh now. With this one, we have to bring out the big guns: namely, the paddle. What do you figure, two thwaps for each offense ought to do, right? So that’d be, let me see, 1734.

Ouch.

It takes a special brand of actor to have such an odious role yet manage to make rows of women (and gents so inclined) swoon in his excellently tailored, uniformed wake. So if you’re into movies that take liberties with history...hell, if you want to feast your eyes on one helluva handsome man, go rent The Patriot, would you? You might want to put on a bib first, because this one will get your salivary glands going 10 RPM.

Actor Jason Isaacs as William Tavington (supposedly based on real-life Lieutenant-Colonel Barnaster Tarleton, a skilled war tactician but a rotten human being). Maybe he was just pissed off at his parents for saddling him with that name, eh?

This was Nathalie for the Hussies, saying, don't waste your villains, reuse them.

P.S. The song in the video will haunt you for days. DAYS, man!

Unfounded Fears... or not

A phobia, is “…a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it.”

I wanted to share something I discovered when I was a participant in a 3-year paranormal study. A large part of this study invovled a weekly past life regression.

As a result, I was trained in hypnosis during the course of this project and afterwards worked with a select group of people who came to me for past life regressions. One of the underlying themes was a deep interest in understanding a specific issue, typically an unfounded fear or habit they couldn’t break and most times a relationship that was worrisome. I never charged and only met with those referred to me.

It was a learning experience for all of us. One man referred by a friend had a romantic relationship that was on again and off again. He desired to end it, but felt addicted to the woman and at the mercy of his own desires.

He declared the relationship was unhealthy and even claimed his partner felt the same, but they felt trapped in their lust. Through regression, a pattern was revealed that seemed to carry over from one lifetime to another. A few of those were physically abusive, unlike the current one, but it did appear each lifetime their relationship proved toxic.

The message from his higher self was neither of them was willing to break the cycle. This refusal was a form of rebellion that had its source from the beginning when their families hundreds of years before had prevented them from being together. Their rebellion had grown stronger and stronger with each lifetime and had gained control over their incarnations almost having a life of its own. This rebellion had separated them from them higher selves (true selves). His higher self advised breaking of the cycle, but warned it must be mutual in order for them take back their free wills.

I saw him several years later and was pleased when he told me how beneficial the session had been that he’d had several spontaneous recalls afterwards. Also, he and his ex-girlfriend had mutually agreed to end their relationship and he felt they'd broken the cycle, ending the karma their stubbornness and rebellion had created.

I found this incident very enlightening because if presented with the scenario, I'd have mistakenly believed the karma would have played out between them and their families - not each other. It proved to me that we hold all the answers deep within ourselves if we are willing to look. (g)

Another one that stands out was a woman who was afraid of second floors and staircases. Any floor below or above was fine, but she could not climb a staircase to the second floor without growing frightened and panicky. Through regression, she discovered a lifetime where she’d been pushed from a second story balcony to her death.

She called me the following week, excited and sounding so alive. She declared she was free of her fear and could easily climb up any staircase and not be afraid. This seems to be the biggest benefit of regressions – freedom from the thing preventing us from leading our lives.

And, this pattern was repeated time after time, person after person. Fears, intense dislikes for someone just met, a specific scent or food evoking repulsion and in some cases nausea - all would disappear once the past life was recalled and relived.

It’s said we are the summation of our experiences. I invite you entertain the idea that many of your current likes and dislikes that have no bearing on present life experiences just might be from past lives.

Just think, maybe the real reason you love chocolate so much is because your 1898 lover brought you Belgium candies, or perhaps the real reason you love French architecture because you were friends with Marie Antoinette, or maybe you can’t stand to have anything tight around your neck or a fear of anyone touching your neck is because you WERE Marie Antoinette (kidding), maybe your special interest or career choice was influenced by a past life. Did you choose to be a doctor because in a past life you were unable to help someone you loved?

So when someone says, “I can’t stand strawberries, but I don’t know why,” just remember, they could have been deathly allergic to strawberries in a past life.

Gettin' Naughty - What Men Want

Last week I talked about what women want and it sparked some interesting responses. Now I’m doing it again but turning the tables. What do men want in a woman? Big bleached blonde hair? Swim suit cover model thin bodies? Listen close, ladies. You just may learn something because their list is both similar and much different than ours. While we seek love and affection, they want sex and respect.

I am not numbering these because they are compiled from a variety of sources and no two sources agreed what things were most important. These fourteen things made almost every list.

Love – When you peel away all the cr… uh, I mean stuff, who doesn’t want to be loved. Everyone wants and needs to feel loved. It’s the most basic and important of human emotions, and its very important to men that they feel loved.

Sex – Yes, men want plenty of sex and think about it more often than not. Sex is a big part of a healthy relationship, and chemistry is very important. This is the number one way to show you love him. Many men equate sex with love and when you withhold sex you’re essentially saying you no longer love him. He needs that validation. Shows of affection are more for you than him. He needs the physical act to know you care.

R E S P E C T – Like women, men want to be treated with respect and know they are appreciated and valued by their partner. They don’t want to be let down, embarrassed or made to feel a fool, especially in public. Men are excessively proud and sensitive to criticism.

Beauty – A pretty face, when coupled with charm, can get away with murder. No, they don’t want Barbie and beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Men are visual and may go by the outer appearance first, but before long they are going to be taking a long hard look at the type of person you are because looks wear thin after a while. Still, he wants to be proud to have you on his arm when walking down the street so take care of your body and stay in the shape he adores, which may be cushy or firm depending on his tasts. Again, it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

Honest Communication – Yes, men want honesty. And they want you to be honest in asking for what you want and need. They also want you to communicate without being too critical so be straightforward and truthful.

Trust – This goes right along with honesty. When the games are played out and the booty calls over, men want someone they can confide in. Lets face it, the most successful relationships are built on trust, candor and honesty.

Confident & Self-sufficient – I’ve said this before, self-confidence is sexy. While men require being wanted and needed by their partners, they want their partner to have a separate identity. They want you to have your own friends and interests. Yes, there are exceptions to every rule.

Ambition - This goes along with confidence and draws in independence. You expect him to have drive and ambition, goals and dreams, right?! Well, he wants to see the same in you. Don’t be satisfied to let him win the world single-handedly, get out there and grab a piece of it for yourself.

Strength – Not physical brawn, but the emotional courage and strength to grow and develop on a personal level. Laugh at yourself. Learn to take responsibility for your emotional experience and expression.

Fidelity – He doesn’t want your eyes roving any more than you want his to. Enough said.

Stroking – We’re not talking sex here, I’m talking about his ego. Praise what he does right. Treating him right means helping him to not feel inadequate. As much as you like to hear he appreciates your efforts to look good for him, he wants to hear it too. Verbal affirmations are typically reserved for women and often neglected when it comes to men. They need to hear it, see it demonstrated in your actions, and feel it.

Intelligence – We’re not just talking book smarts here, but also street smarts. He’s looking for more than a housewife and mother for the kids. He wants someone who can handle herself and who he doesn’t have to fear stepping away from. Ah, again we’re back to confidence, strength, independence—seeing how everything is tying together here?

Sense of Humor – Yup, they want this just like we do. They want you to be able to relax and laugh at that Three Stooges episode or got to see a movie you consider male humor with him. He works hard, puts up with a lot, and appreciates a woman who can put a smile on his face and make him laugh.

Real – Men don’t want fake or plastic. Not in how you act or look. They want the real you. Be yourself, not what you think he wants. Most men aren’t attracted to plastic, made-up women. They want a natural, wholesome looking woman without the pulled, unnatural looking face most plastic surgery procedures produce, breast implants or Botox that paralyzes smiles and expressions.

Just like last week, these are only some of the top things men want that I found in research. These are not my personal opinions. There are of course many more qualities that make up the complete package, and yes, men also want it all just like we do.

Tie me up...I've got a Knight waiting for me!

Hello Dolls and Gents!

The wonderful ladies have allowed me to post...boy are they trusting...I mean, how nice.

So...I am a fellow author and I adore historicals. Spicy, hot ones. I've been working in the historical garment field for two decades and I actully do own corsets and bustles. I make the things. Digging around in history books is a passion that keeps me searching for new 'used' book stores. Fabric shopping trips can take an entire weekend and yes I can spend hours looking for the period correct buttons.
"Hands off...those are for my husbands doublet!"
When I write historical love scenes for my Dawn Ryder books I often lace up into a corset, just to remind myself what my leading lady is dealing with. My writing station is in the sewing room, so there is alway fabric and half made doublets and slops in sight. That's what happens when you meet your husband at a ren faire...no kidding and we still work it along with our two sons. Keeping four people in noble clothing is no easy task. I write full time and sew on the side.
If you enjoy spicy historicals...check a few of mine...but be warned these are not your grand mothers historical romances! I love playing with the idea of...What if....

See ya all later and thanks so much...I've got a knight waiting for me and there is nothing like a corset to give a girl a little wicked intent!

Not to mention great looking hooters!

I'm a blogging 'wet behind the ears baby'...so I hope I didn't make anyone's eye's smart!

Packin' some HUSSY Power!

There's a lot of talk these days about the power for change. (Especially in my neck of the woods with elections coming up!) It got me thinking what kind of power I have. Do I have the power to change things? The answer is - YES.

We all do. Now I'm not going to run for office, picket something or write letters to the editor. But I carry my Hussy power with me all the time - it's in my wallet! I'm going to survive today by exercising the power of my dollars! If I like something, then I'll buy it. A product works? I'll buy another one. I like an author's work? I'll buy another book from her.

BUT...if it doesn't work for me, then I won't put out a single coin for it. It sounds simple enough, but think about it. A hundred people doing this - ho hum. A million people doing this? You've got power, babies!!!! Books, being near and dear to my heart, are a classic example. Recently I bought the first hardcover from a favorite author of mine. (I won't name names.) I have all her paperbacks and loved her sharp, snappy plots and sizzling hot romances. This hardcover? Halfway through I'm wondering if it's the same writer. The heroine was two inches shy of "Too Stupid to Live", spending all her time lusting for the hero even though bombs were exploding around her and body parts flying. Obviously somebody told this writer to up the sex quotient. It didn't work. I'm heartbroken and from now on I will NOT buy a hardcover with her name on it. Does my opinion matter? In the overall scheme of things, probably not. BUT...if a hundred thousand of her fans (and I'm sure she has at least that many) feel the same way...the point is going to get across to her publisher pretty darn quick.

So...YOU have the power, folks. All of us can use that power every time we open our wallets. If it's good, it gets our "vote". If it sucks...we don't buy it. Make today the day you decide to use YOUR power. We work hard for our money - why not make it work for us? Say no to that hand cream that turned out to be more like jello than silk. Cancel that magazine subscription to the one that's all glossy ads and nothing else these days. Remember the power you have folded into your purse. It's the bottom line, it's stronger than any voting bloc, and if we all use it wisely we can make the world a better place with products that really live up to their advance billing. We Hussies are a target "demographic" - women who are in the cross-hairs of advertisers and merchandisers alike. From this point on, I ain't buyin' it unless I KNOW it's going to work for me. If I have to try something new, I'll look for a sample or at least a coupon. I might try a new book from a new author...but if I don't like it, I won't buy another. THIS is the power, folks! We all have it! Let's survive today - and every day - by using it wisely! Our bottom line will thank us and perhaps we'll see more in the way of quality stuff coming down the pike. We deserve it.

And to that author? Honey, go back to what worked. Don't listen to your editor/publisher who demanded you put in all that sex instead of story. Trust your gut and write that next fabulous book. Just put it out in paperback, okay? Otherwise, I won't be picking it up....
